filming!!!

we have now refilmed the scenes that we needed for the main storyline involved in the advert!!
we just now need to film the extra bit that w are going to show as we are going to have other scenes flash up at the start to show that it is christmas and to show there is more characters in our soap! we got this idea from a advert we found! you can view this advert by clicking it in the side colume of my blog!

my partner and i will be filming these extra bits over the christmas holidays to give a real christmasy effect!

here is all of the possible magazine front covers my partner and i have made!

we now just need to ask people what they think and to pick the best one, and the one they would buy if they saw it in a shop.

Magazines....

we have now finished all the possible front covers that we did seperatly. and now we just have to decide which of them we like the best!!!

we thought it would be a good idea if we narrowed it down to the 3 or 4 we liked the best and then asked other people their opinion on which one they think is the best and the one they would most want to buy if the saw it in the shops!!!

More Problems !!!

we are having a few problems with the footage that we shot during the holiday, for example the quality of the picture isnt up to the standards that we wanted, so we are going to have to film it again to see if we ca improve it in amy way.

we have also realised that most soap adverts are only a usally around 30 seconds long. so we thought it would be a good idae if we did two adverts for two different episodes but on the same story line.

Our second trailer is going to be a trailer of the episode before when the wife is at her mothers grave and she is placing down a picture of their wedding day that she missed. This is all to help with creating the relationships between everybody.

More Filming!!!!!

Tomorow morning we are planning to finish our filmimng so that we have all of our footage we can then spend half a day editing it all together. once we have done this we can then focus on editing it for the final piece! and add things such as the sound track and subtitles/slogans.
Then we will have finihsed our trailer and can focus on the magazine and poster!!!!

Another Possible Magazine cover!!!

This is another Possible option for the front cover of my magazine!!

I changed the background and the picture!
I changed the background because i thought in the other example the background wasnt dark enough! i think the new background works very well!!!

Possible Poster Pictures

These Pictures might be good ones to use in the poster!!!
in the two pictures with them back to back we may be able to cut them out using photoshop and make a gap between them to put have the writing in the middle of them!

Poster ideas!!!!

I have looked at a few ideas for the billboard style poster and i quite like the idea of having the two characters standing apart and having the writing in the middle of them i think it will look quite affective.
OR
we could have them standing together hugging or somthing and have the writing by the side of then with the soap and channel logo!!!!

Poster Problems

We are still having problems trying to find examples for the third part of our project, which is to make a poster advertising our soap opera!!

we think it is ment to be along the lines of a billboard advertisment so we are going to start looking more at them to see if we can get any ideas.

Possible magazine front cover.....

Now we have uploaded the pictures we took in the half term on to the computer we can now start to put the pictures on the covers using Photoshop to see which one looks best.

we are makeing a few examples each and seeing which one we like the best!!!

I have changed the background on this front cover as we thought it would be good to look at different techniques, and i think it worked well.

Also over the half term we took the photos for the front page of the magazine. We took lots of different shots with the pair in different poses.
we needed them to be quite close together as we need to put them on to the cover and also have room for other pictures and writing.

Filming...

Over the half term holidays we spent a whole day filming our soap trailer. WE created the scene with christmas decorations up aorund the living room (my partners house) and got some brown boxes filled up with childhood toys and ornaments that would add to the eefect that we wanted to create. The day was quite productive and we got alot done, we dont have a lot left to film now, just the end part and some finishing touches to the other parts. AS we are filming a part witha birth cirtificate we had to restart filming all over agin as we started with our actor called Jack then had to change him to Nck as that was the name on the birth cirtificate that we found. Now that we are back to school we can organise another day to finish the final touches and then begin on the editing of the movie. WE also took several pictures on this day also, as this was for our magazine as we needed a shot of the couple to go on the front cover! so we have alot of stuff to sort thru when we get back....

Now i have two of the images for the front cover finished I can start on the 3rd picture. I thought it would be a good idea to have the two pictures in the image of a baubel and have the picture in the middle in a different image.

I have made two samples of the same image within differnt images but i am not sure which one will look the best. So i am going to use them both on seperate front page sample and decide which is best later.

At the bottom of the magazine we are going to have pictures of other soaps storylines to advertise their soaps like most other tv guides do. To keep in the with the christmas theme we are going to present the images within a christmas image E.G. baubles.

We have decided to create a few different magazine front covers each so when it comes to choose the final one we have a range of different choices.

Here are two images that may be on the magazine. i have broken it down into the following stages:
-Original Picture from soap
-Original picture of christmas image
-Final image of picture in the christmas image

magazine Baubel's and Pictures

We have decided to create two magazine front covers, with a few differences like the colour of the font, so that when it comes down to the end, we can choose a favourite.


We are doing a Baubel pictures each on the magazine front cover and on friday we are going take the main picture of our magazine to have in the middle.

this is the picture im going to put in one of the baubels im am doing as it is one from a christmas episode from eastenders, to keep in with the theme!

Practice Shots...

we spent some time taking shots of different, quick and small events to give us an idea on different techniques we could use. These practise shots will be quite usefull because now we will be able to edit them together to get an idea on best visual shots such as handheld or on the tri-pod. We shot different angles of wlaking through doors and also one of our parts that we are going to have in our trailer which is the tension building bit at the end when the woman drops the birth cirtificate. WE tried different angles and we will choose the best but we did find that paper would be a problem as it doesnt fall flat so we would have to think of other ideas such as card or doubling up the layers of paper. also we had a bit of trouble following the papper as when it falls it salls quite qickly therefor we found it hard keeping it in the shot at all times.

Quick overview of shots and angles we could use

• Starting off with a black out
OR
• The advert/logo of whatever channel it is going to be shown on.
• We could start off with a through the window shot of the couple looking though the box and maybe somehow add the effect of it snowing to get a feel of the time of year!
• Maybe a close up of a wedding photo they have just picked up showing they are married.
OR
• Have a shot of pictures along the fire place. Go along the mantel to show other pictures of family holidays, etc, the mantel piece will be covered in Christmas tinsel and lights.
• Mid shot of them looking though and her picking up a piece of paper
• Move straight to a close up of her face as she realises what it is!
• Maybe then Move to him with a close up with him saying something like “what is it!”
• Then move in to a long shot (so we can see her full body) with her about to drop the paper. In this shot I’m not to sure yet of the position of the camera I have three options and want to pick the one that will have the most dramatic effect.
They are –
1. Having the women standing face on towards the camera
2. Having the women side on facing her husband and having him in the shot
3. Having rear view of the women facing her husband.


• To add to the mysterious effect the camera will then follow the paper to the ground as it drops.
• Finally finishing with a close up of the paper to she that it is a birth certificate with her husbands name on it

Music and voice over for advert

Music and voice over
• Christmas music, playing throughout the sequence
• Not to sure what song yet but we were thinking of having one which is quite slow or maybe even a Christmas carol
• Voice over examples:
• “Christmas is a time for family, but you never quite know who that might be”
• “Christmas is a time for family, however they might be closer than you think”
• “Christmas is a time of happiness but would you be happy?”
• “Christmas is a time of happiness but that doesn’t mean there wont be surprises”
• The voice over is going to come in quite near to the end maybe around the shot of her looking at the birth certificate before she realises what it is.
OR
• Having the voice over start when he see a picture of the wedding and then have a pause and then finish when it’s the shot of the birth certificate

We don’t have to decide on any of this just yet though as the music and voice is one of the last things to add. And we don’t have to add this until the whole thing has been edited

Magazine

my partner has produced an example of what our idea would look like... this is a present that i have blurred a picture over the top of. we would write a caption across this such as "Love is the best present at christmas" and we could have a slogan towards the top of the magazine saying something along the lines of love at christmas, so that we get an idea of the themes in the soaps.

Magazine ideas

We like the idea of the we love telly magazine, where they have pictures of other soaps in the middle of the ball-balls.

we would like to use this idea but maybe change it by haveing the pictures in different christmas shapes for example christmas presents,having the picture coming out of christmas stockings and different shaped ball-balls

Final Two Magazine Title Headings

These are our final Two designs for the masthead of our TV magazine they are centered around a christmas scene as we said. The main difference between the two is that the font is different colours but now we have got it down to the two we can decide on a definate one later on.

Advert examples

we have been looking at some examples of other saop adverts from around christmas. our favourite was an advert for Eastenders. but you can see them all in the side colume of my blog.

we are using Photoshop and Illustrator, using photoshop we came up with this design that will be our title of the magazine...we chose the font and using photoshop merged the images so that they over lapped to create this christmas themed picture.

THESE THREE PICTURES ARE EXAMPLES OF WHAT THE TITLE COULD lOOK LIKE WITH CHRISTMAS ICONS ON TOP OF THEM!! EVEN THE BASIC CHANGES LIKE WHAT T THE XMAS HAT IS ON COULD MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

AS we are doing a christmas edition we are going to photoshop some sort of festive icon such as a xmas hat or holly or something like that....

Summary so far

We have decided on who is going to act in our soap opera, it is going to star two students from my partner's Alevel drama group. We now need to decide on some sort of script, place of shooting and all the sorts of props and things we need to be in the background.

Name: The Valley

Setting:Living room of a house, that is filled with boxes of things that might belong to an elderly person such as orniments, pictures etc.

Actors:< Ben Dowling and Christy Grimes

Tv magazine name: Tv Talent!

Now that we have everything sorted we can start by creating some sort of script and begin filming... Once we have the trailer for the soap sorted we can use the clips to take still shots to put on the tv magazine.

Problems

We are having problems with our third part of the project as it is to create a poster for the soap, but we are having trouble finding any examples!!!


Also our teacher has just pointed out to us that there is already a tv magazines called TV TIMES! so we need to reconsider what we are going to call our magazine...

We are now going to call our magazine TV Talent!!!

TV magazines

We are now looking at ideas for the second part of the project which is creating a front cover of a tv magazine. tha magazine is going to be advertising our soap and our storyline is going to be the main article. There is also going to be pictures from exsisting soaps.
so my partner started looking at different styles of font for the title, she used TV TIME as an example for the font types.

As our advert is for an episode set around christmas, we looked at tv magazines with christmas themes, as we want our magazine to have chritmas themes on the front cover too...

Camera angles and effects

We have looked on the internet for different exsisting trailers to get ideas such as voice overs and effects.


WE are thinking that we might have to have a close up on the wedding photo or invitation because we need to make it obvious that it the two of them.

We have also started to think about the different camera angles we are going to use to create the different atmostpheres. for example for tension and a dramatic ending we are going to have a mid shot of the wife looking at the paper. and then maybe a close up of her face after Realising what it is, to show the how shocked she is.

We then thought it would add to the tention if as the women drops the Birth certificate on the floor, we follow it down with the camera finishing with a close up of the Birth certificate showing her husbands name!

After our research on trailors we have come to the conlusion that we are going to have the trailor/episopde based in christmas time. This is due to the fact we found that all the best and exciting storylines come out at christmas time. So we are going to use some of the ideas from exsisting trailers such as:

1) Xmas music

2) Voice over (not yet decided on man or women) ex. "Who's the daddy"

3) Flash up of words, such as " loves the dad.... loves the son"

Story line ideas

we have researched many different soap operas and looked at a few of their story lines. from our research we found out that many of the soap operas have the similar sorts of story lines running at the same time as each other.

Here are a few ideas we have thought of after our research:

- Father of a baby finds out he is not the dad.
- long lost children coming back and the mother not knowing it is her.
- a fire.
- married couples finding out they are actually Brother and sister
- teenager with a drug addiction

Etc.....

We decided to go for the story line with the married couple finding out they are actually Brother and Sister. because we wanted something less obviuos and something that is rarelly done on exsisting soaps. We thought we could film the advert like this..

Husband and wife are looking though her dead mothers things. They find photos their wedding photos to show that they are married. Then they find a birth certificate of the husband. This shows that they are actually Brother and sister!

We have not yet decided of a name for our soap. But we are thinking of something along the line of 'The Valley', keeping in the themes of other soaps, of nameing the soap after a area or village.

I have made a presentation on The soaps Hollyoaks and Eastenders to help me to make our soap. and help us decided on things Such as, Auidences, cast, characters, setting,places. My partner also made a presentations, on two different soaps, which i have included here.
